I laughed when you ducked behind the car. I do that with Dasy sometimes no way would she stand at the barrier, rather she’d come charging full speed and try to get me to chase her. Anyway thanks for posting these vids!

Is it possible to teach the dog that whenever you have a leash on they can leave the barrier and whenever they don’t they must stay inside the barrier?

@cooluka99 So you basicly share a yard, but you expect your dog to understand that even without you there it is not to cross the invisible line to your neighbour’s part of the yard? You might be able to leave her out there while you pop in to get something or talk on the phone for a while, but I would not leave my dog in an unfenced yard (there is no fence between you and your neighbours) on their own for longer periods of time.

@EvelineUK and did you here my first part of the comment i said she is in a FENCED back yard and we have people living in one of 2 apartments ( they are nice and wouldnt hurt her or anything ) and its my parents who are the owners of the flat. and my dog is leashed so she doesn’t go to their half of the yard and jump on them if they go out or pee and poop etc. and my question was could i leave her alone there

@cooluka99 Did you see the first part? Emily says (not a direct quote) ‘you wouldn’t leave your laptop out in an unfenced yard, don’t leave your dog where it could be injured, lost or stolen.’

Do I have to work on this in every different place of my yard? I mean, you’re working on a mailbox area, but do you later have to work like on the other side of a house?
You are amazing!!!
But anyway really helpful video, I’m sure it helps many dog owners

I’m so glad you mentioned the common misconception about fear or aversive training
Thanks for explaining this so thoroughly

Awesome. I had never given a cue to go back inside the barrier but i will make one now. I might call it “home”. Great tips Emily.

can i leave my dog unatended in a fenced yard becaus i live in an flat and have 2 apartments that connect to the yard and in one apartment i live, with my dog being in the yard and in the other one there are people and my dog is leashed in my yard . so i wanted to let her off leash in my yard and ask if she could not cross the other half without me there could she do it ?

Thanks for the video!
One question, what do we do if we’re walking our dogs and we teach the curb as the barrier? Will we have to say the release cue every time we want to cross the street?
